Careless Riding

Following the running of Race 7 (Team Wealleans Tauranga Classic), Information A14453 was filed with the Judicial Committee. It was alleged by the Informant that Mr BR Jones, the Rider of KATIE PERRIE permitted his horse to shift out near the 175m when not sufficiently clear, this resulted in WHOSHE’S GIRL being checked.

Mr BR Jones said that he understood the Charge, Rule and confirmed that he admitted the breach.

Mr Williamson showed the film replays and said that KATIE PERRIE came out from its inside position and checked WHOSHE’S GIRL. He said that the horse MEKELLE that was racing outside WHOSHE’S GIRL did contribute by shifting in. He added that in his opinion if KATIE PERRIE had not shifted out interference would not have happened.

Mr BR Jones said that he did shift out but in his opinion MEKELLE shifted in more than he had shifted out.

As the charge was admitted it was deemed proved by the Committee.

Submission For Penalty:

Mr Jones said that Mr BR Jones had a clear record. He placed the carelessness in the low to mid-range area. He invited the Committee to take into account that it was a Listed Race and that there was some contribution from another runner.

Mr BR Jones said that he did not have any immediate engagements.

Reasons For Penalty:

The Committee placed the carelessness in the low-range category. Taking into account all matters alluded to regarding penalty it was the Committee’s determination that a suspension of 4 riding days was an appropriate penalty.

Mr BR Jones’ Jockey Licence was suspended from 27 June 2021 up to and including racing on 7 July 2021.
