871.1.d

Jockey, G. Walsh, admitted a breach of rule 871 (1) (D) in that he allowed his mount ‘Just a Swagger’ to shift in when not clear at the start.

Jockey, G. Walsh, admitted a breach of rule 871 (1) (D) in that he allowed his mount ‘Just a Swagger’ to shift in when not clear at the start.

Stipendiary steward, N. Goodwin, showed the head on film and pointed out the incident in which 3 other horses were affected.  Mr. Walsh had no comment.

In his submission on penalty, Mr. Goodwin asked for a penalty of suspension stating that the incident was at the lower range and asked for 3 days.  Mr. Walsh, he added, was last suspended on the 14/06/07.

Mr. Walsh had no comment on the submission from Mr. Goodwin but added that he only rode in highweights and jumping races and did ride all over New Zealand.

  Penalty:

In coming to our decision to suspend Mr. Walsh, the committee took into account his admittance of the breach, his good riding record and concur it was on the lighter end of the scale.

The committee has decided to suspend you from race riding from the completion of racing on the 8th May 2008 until the completion of racing on the 16th of May 2008.  The three riding days during that period are the race days that have listed in the calendar for highweight or jumping races.
