Information Number
Careless Riding

Following the running of Race 7 (NB Insurance Pearl Series Race) Information A14455 was filed with the Judicial Committee. It was alleged by the Applicant that Mr Kamaruddin allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of PENNY JANE which was crowded and checked, losing ground near the 150m.

Mr Kamaruddin (assisted by Mr Harris) said that he understood the Rule, Charge and confirmed that he admitted the breach.

Mr Williamson showed all film replays and identified the two horses and said that Mr Kamaruddin when riding with the whip, allowed his mount to shift into the line of PENNY JANE when only ¾ to 1 length clear, with PENNY JANE having to be checked.

Mr Kamaruddin and Mr Harris told the Committee that SHAMPAGNE DANCER hung out on the turn when outside of the leader. They said that it got tired and started to wander about.

Mr Harris said that after shifting in (near 150m) Mr Kamaruddin was slow to straighten his horse.

As the charge was admitted it was deemed proved by the Committee.

Submission For Penalty:

Mr Jones said that Mr Kamaruddin’s record showed one breach of the Rule in the last 12 months (3-Riding Day Suspension imposed). He placed the carelessness in the low-range.

Mr Kamaruddin said that he would like to take a 10 day deferment and confirmed the record to be correct.

Reasons For Penalty:

The Committee took into account the admission of the breach, good record and that the carelessness was in the low-range category. It was considered that a suspension of 4- Riding Days and a fine was a condign penalty.

Mr Kamaruddin’s Apprentice Jockey’s Licence was suspended from close of racing on 10 July through to close of racing on 17 July 2021 together with a $200 fine being imposed.
